How To Tuesday: Pizza Plate

July 2, 2013

After a long and exhausting day, sometimes cooking a full-blown family meal is just too much to think about. But just because you “gave in” and ordered pizza doesn’t mean that your time together as a family can’t be special and unique. This project is perfect for any kid (from age 2 to 102) and they will always look forward to pulling out those hand-made pizza plates as a special treat, and remember what a good time you had as a family making them together.

PizzaPlateMaterials Needed:

  • Pizza Plate
  • Large Square Brush
  • Fan Brush
  • Large Round Sponge
  • Toothbrush
  • Glaze Colors: Lemon, Orange Sherbet, Salsa, Hot Tamale, & Chocolate Milk

Instructions:

  1. Wipe down the piece with a damp sponge to make sure that no dust or dirt has settled on the piece.
  2. Paint three coats of Lemon glaze all over the inside of the pizza plate. Paint three coats of Chocolate Milk on the back and “rim” of the pizza plate, like a crust on a piece of pizza.
  3. Mix a small amount of water in with the Orange Sherbet and Salsa glazes. Use a toothbrush and fan-shaped brush to flick and splatter the Orange Sherbet and Salsa glazes onto the inside of the plate.
  4. Gather Hot Tamale glaze on a large, round sponge and stamp it firmly onto the Lemon painted part of the plate. These will be your pepperoni.
  5. (Optional) Feel free to add other “toppings” on your pizza. You can use various paint pens to make whichever toppings are your favorite, such as Black olives, mushrooms from Chocolate Milk glaze, Kiwi for green peppers, Rosey for ham, or Java for sausage.
  6. Write your name or initials on the bottom of your piece with a paintbrush or paint pen. (Please note: Pen or pencil will not show up after the firing process.)
