HTT: “Covered in Mud” Piggy Bank

February 26, 2013

For this “How To Tuesday” post, we’re celebrating the joys of getting a little messy! This adorable muddy piggy bank is the perfect way to save loose change for the little mess-maker in your life, or makes a great birthday or baby shower gift.

MuddyPiggyBankMaterials Needed:

  • This Little Piggy Bank
  • Regular and Fan Brush
  • Peacock & White Paint Pens
  • Glaze Colors: Lettuce, Peacock, & Chocolate Milk

Instructions:

  1. Wipe down the piece with a damp sponge to make sure that no dust or dirt has settled on the piece.
  2. Apply three coats of Lettuce paint all over your Piggy Bank, avoiding the inside of his ears and the bottom part of his feet.
  3. Paint three coats of Peacock on the inside of his ears. Use a Peacock paint pen to paint the inside of his nostrils, eyes, and eyebrows.
  4. Use a White paint pen to add a small “life dot” in the upper corner of each eye.
  5. Apply a generous amount of Chocolate Milk glaze in various patches around the piggy bank, especially around his feet. (Tip: I think this design looks especially cute with a patch of mud on his nose and the tip of his ear, but do whatever feels right to you!) Once dry, add another generous layer of Chocolate Milk. Experiment with letting the glaze drip down in certain places.
  6. Load up your Fan brush with Chocolate Milk and add a couple extra splatters to make him even more messy!
  7. Write your name or initials on the back of your piece with a paintbrush or paint pen. (Please note: Pen or pencil will not show up after the firing process.)
