How To Tuesday: Paint Chip Christmas Tree

December 11, 2012

This week we’re featuring another Christmas Tree design, but this one has a very cool twist! You’ll learn how to use Paint Chips, available at any of our All Fired Up locations. Just see a Sales Associate, and they’ll show you all of your color options!

Materials Needed:

  • Christmas Tree Plate
  • Large Brush
  • Paint Chips in Assorted Colors (see Sales Associate)
  • Glaze Colors: Spruce & Hot Tamale

Instructions:

  1. Wipe down the piece with a damp sponge to make sure that no dust or dirt has settled on the piece.
  2. Cover the back of the plate with three coats of Hot Tamale. Allow to Dry.
  3. IMPORTANT: Add your name or initials to the bottom of your plate NOW with a paint brush or paint pen, as you will not be able to turn it upside down by the end of this project. (Tip: Pen or Pencil will not show up after the firing process.)
  4. Turn over and paint two thick coats of Spruce glaze on the inside of your plate. Make sure all of your edges are as crisp as you want them at this stage. It will be harder to go back after adding the paint chips.
  5. Go ahead and get your paint chips ready (unscrew any caps or open any bags to allow easy access).
  6. Paint a third coat of Spruce and while still wet immediately sprinkle paint chips over the inside of the plate. These will stick in the wet glaze and help them stay in place. Allow to dry before trying to move your plate, and you’re done!
