How To Tuesday: Winter Wonderland Mug
November 27, 2012
There is a chill in the air and it’s time to cozy up to a fire with the kids and a good book and enjoy a hot cup of cocoa. Get your kids into Winter Wonderland mode by helping them paint their very own cocoa mugs. This design is so cute, and easy enough for the whole family to participate!
Materials:
Standard 12oz Mug
- Brush
- Toothbrush
- Pencil
- Glaze Colors: Galaxy (speckled), Blizzard (speckled), Vanilla, Black, and White
- Paint Pens: Earth, Chocolate Milk, Marigold, Tang, Black, and White
Instructions:
- Wipe down the piece with a damp sponge to make sure that no dust or dirt has settled on the piece.
- Draw a wiggling line along the bottom third of the mug.
- Paint Galaxy glaze along the top of mug, mixing with Blizzard as you move down, stopping along the pencil line drawn in the last step.
- Dip the toothbrush into Vanilla glaze and then rub your finger along the bristles to speckle and splatter the entire mug, especially along the unpainted bottom third.
- Use thumbprints in Vanilla to create the snowman, and a Black thumbprint for the penguin.
- Add details with paint pens (Black as coal eyes and buttons, Earth as his stick arms and logs on the fire with Chocolate Milk highlights; Marigold for the lighter flames on the fire and Tang as the darker flames, feet and nose of the penguin, and nose of the snowman; White for the eyes and belly of the penguin).
- Write your name or initials on the bottom of your piece with a paintbrush or paint pen. (Please note: Pen or pencil will not show up after the firing process.)
